The Challenge

A Grade II listed 17th-century riverside estate in Battersea, located near Chelsea and the River Thames, required specialist landscaping and restoration to maintain its historic character while improving overall garden health and usability. The project presented logistical challenges including restricted access via narrow roads, proximity to an active helipad, and the need to work sensitively around historically significant planting originally associated with Sir Christopher Wren. The grounds also showed signs of lawn decline, weed infestation, and localised damage.

The Solution

Grass Barbers delivered a targeted garden restoration programme tailored to the estate’s heritage and environmental conditions. This included large-scale lawn regeneration using 6,000 litres of organic soil improver and 3,000 litres of organic top dressing to restore vitality and structure.

Over 120 hours of detailed weeding and hedge restoration were carried out to reclaim planting areas, alongside precise topiary pruning and hedge shaping to enhance and preserve the original garden design. A new irrigation system was installed to support long-term plant health, particularly in shaded areas beneath mature trees.

Additional repairs were completed to address lawn damage, ensuring a consistent and high-quality finish across all green spaces. All works were carefully planned and executed to accommodate site constraints, including restricted access and ongoing helicopter activity nearby.
