The London Borough of Merton Regeneration Team, through the Rediscover Mitcham initiative, required ongoing grounds maintenance and environmental management as part of a major town centre regeneration project.

The project involved working in high-traffic public areas near main roads, maintaining newly installed lawns, planting and public spaces while managing litter, protecting local wildlife habitats and ensuring safe operations with constant pedestrian movement.

The Solution

Grass Barbers delivered a scalable grounds maintenance programme, evolving from initial litter picking to full-service maintenance including grass cutting, vegetation management and mobile irrigation.

The team carried out extensive litter collection, removing over 90 bags of waste, alongside clearing approximately 4 tonnes of green waste. A key part of the project involved an eco-friendly mobile watering system, utilising collected rainwater to support the establishment of newly laid turf.

Special attention was given to environmentally sensitive areas, including vegetation surrounding Three Kings Pond, ensuring habitats remained clean and safe for local wildlife.

All works were carried out using carefully planned, safety-focused methods, enabling efficient operations within a highly active public setting without disruption or incident.
