Commercial Grounds Clearance Project in Forest Hill SE23

The Challenge

The London Borough of Lewisham Council required a large-scale site clearance and restoration at Forest Hill Business Centre in Clyde Vale, SE23.

The site had been left unmanaged for years, resulting in extreme overgrowth, including Pyracantha hedges exceeding building height, widespread brambles and invasive ivy. This neglect contributed to significant fly-tipping issues, with waste accumulating across the site and negatively impacting safety, accessibility and visual standards.

The Solution

Grass Barbers deployed both commercial grounds maintenance and tree surgery teams to carry out a full-scale clearance operation.

Specialist operatives used chainsaws and wood chippers to reduce and remove overgrown trees, hedges and shrubs, while ground teams cleared dense vegetation including brambles, nettles, ivy and weeds. In total, nearly 10 tonnes of green waste was removed from the site.

The team also addressed a heavily affected public-facing area, removing approximately 2 tonnes of fly-tipped domestic waste, which was safely transported to a licensed waste transfer facility.

Following clearance, the land was levelled, cultivated and reseeded, restoring green space and improving usability for site occupants. Works were carried out systematically over multiple days to ensure thorough clearance and site recovery.

The Result

Grass Barbers successfully transformed a neglected and hazardous site into a clean, safe and functional environment for businesses and the local community.

The project significantly improved site appearance, reduced ongoing risks associated with fly-tipping and overgrowth, and restored usable green space. As a result, the client awarded Grass Barbers an ongoing grounds maintenance contract, ensuring long-term site upkeep and management.
